Mike’s Priorities:

Make Alaska Safe Again

The explosive growth in violent and property crime that Alaska has experienced in recent years demands an aggressive response. Alaska now leads the nation in almost every category of crime, making our state the most dangerous in the country.

Protect The Dividend

The Permanent Fund and Permanent Fund Dividend program belong to the people.  I also believe they serve as the best example of our state government getting something right.  Governor Hammond and others knew what they were doing. It was never broken, and does not need to be “fixed.”

Reduce State Spending

Some politicians tell us that Alaska’s operating budget has been cut to the bone.  This is nonsense.  The most recent budget spends over 13% more than the year before.  If we don’t get our spending under control, no combination of taxes and PFD grab can keep up.

Bring Jobs and Investment to Alaska

Alaska’s economy is currently in recession and we have the highest unemployment rate in the country.  The worst possible response to a struggling private sector is to impose a statewide income tax, the path Governor Walker wants to take.  We can’t tax our way to prosperity.  The only way to restore our economy and bring new jobs to Alaska is to create a business climate that encourages investment, instead of making it more difficult.

Uphold Constitutional Rights

I took an oath as a State Senator to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska. Article I, Section 1 of our State Constitution states, “all persons have a natural right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the enjoyment of the rewards of their own industry.”

Honor Families and Parental Rights

During the five years I served in the State Senate, no legislator worked harder to protect families from government overreach, and to defend the rights of parents to raise and educate their children according to their values.
